We had an amazing dinner gathering today at Maged and Katia's place. It was simply wonderful. It's just hard to say how much I love those guys and their company... Maged and Katia surely deserve a post only about them :) ... Anyway, today we laughed, ate, talked, played and sang songs... Lovely songs from home. And one of them was this one ...

I have only felt homesick when I was in Korea once, and everything was very bleak and depressing, and I just wanted to go home and be with my friends! I didn't stay there long, but at least I experienced it.
I think the problem (or blessing) of being born and raised in Dubai, is that you tend not to move a lot, since people come over here, and not the other way around. I have only heard of homesickness ... and even tried helping friends overcome it, but it proved to be a stronger force than I expected.
Cure? Enjoy what you have! you will soon feel homesick again, but this time ... for a different home.

But the song is not patriotic in any sense! I can’t see how you are seeing it as a national anthem!! :D
I would say it’s full of “longing” rather than “belonging” :) …
But is it a coincidence that “longing” is a suffix of “belonging”?? Does it say something?? I don’t know…
I think one can hardly long for anything that he didn’t belong to. But many times you know how much you belonged to something and related to it only when you leave it and you miss it and long for it... only then you will see it so beautiful and unforgettable.
I am sure you will make it so much easier when you come. Your presence would make it easier for me to relate to wherever we are together. It’s great to have the ability of quick adaptation. I adapt well too. But I don’t think it implies having a lack in belonging:) …
One last thought… if you spend long enough in 2 places, countries or cities. I think you will belong/relate to both... and that’s not disloyal to any of them, is it?

I have been a silent reader for a while, but I think it's about time to get out of the dark. shortly, though:)
This is one song i wish i wrote. it's my personal favourite arabic speaking song for it has what most lack: Raw Emotion. I can hardly recall another arabic song that stayed fresh and relevant as this one.

What you said about the song is so true.. It's a classic because it's forever true. And it has to be true because it's Raw Emotion!
Very few people are able to expess raw emotions. It's a human tendency to process, refine and put make-up to emotions before letting them go into words or music.

That dinner at Maged & Katia's was truly wonderful. For a few hours, I really felt I am back in Egypt, sitting with old friends; eating, laughing and singing.
The loving and sharing energy these guys project is amazing. In addition to the excellent guitar playing and the feelings enriched singing voice of katia made it truly unforgettable.

medove, as much as i would love to help you ... i went there on transit to paradise island :D I actually had the time of my life, trying to understand the Metro guide announcing the stops we had to stop at. To me it all sounded like:

hahahahahahaha... So it is not a long visit to Korea :-) Silly me... Well if ever i went to Korea, i will be able to pronounce the phrases written, though i won't be able to interpret all of them but hey may bed some ay i can... Who knows :-)
