To whomever ...

To whomever I said before you have to go back home “Egypt” to raise your kids there, where they would have an إنتماء and a هوية ; I apologize and I say it out loud “GATNI SETTEEN NEELA” :-(

no matter where u raise up your kids, just make sure u tell them what's right & what's wrong. if u insist they grow up in Egypt, it is when u insist they grow up to be just like you, something like elli ne3raffo a7san melli mane3rafhoosh. The place's not important as long as u r all happy and satisfied & btw: it doesn't have to be a problem-free place!

Lilli, of course there is no problem-free place .. but this does not negate that the society and the culture of the place a kid grows up in impact and affect him/her as much as his/her parents do ...

I used to tell my married friends that the problem with raising up kids here or any other gulf state is that I think that these societies lack culture and character and stability to a very large extent. Think their إنتماء and هوية as I wrote.

It is not that I prefer that my kids grow up in Egypt the same society I grew up in; as you can see in my post I am not anymore a happy fan of this society the sad way it is now!

i know, it's all that i was giving you an excuse so that u don't be that upset about not raising ur kids here in Egypt as u might have decided. But u can do some EXTRA effort to give them such identity and belonging regardless the place.
and be sure that Alexandria will be safe again. God is our protector, and frankly, i wasn't shocked when i heard the news. Sadly this is normal and expected!

That's an interesting thing you are saying here and I am not really sure I agree with you or not.

The نتماء and هوية is something you can't really avoid if you are an Egyptian. There's just too much heritage and history to be proud of. A lot to belong to and a lot to die for.

The our current state of existence is a low point, but we must take our share of responsibility. Beucause the societ is us. it isn't a different entity that evolves in perfect isolation from our actions and beliefs.

The thing is that we have grown apathetic towards change. "we ana mali" & "One person can't change the world" are perfect lame execuses for us to drug our brains and enjoy the dancing tunes on Melody TV. We ceased to be proactive (Like Proventia:)) and we are waiting for that miracle man to right all wrongs when that simply not going to happen.

So where does this lead me in my argument. right off track!!:)

While there's not much to be proud of in modern Egypt, and while it might be not a very healthy environment to raise our children. It remains our home. The place that gives us an identity and an extra dose of arrogance and pride about victories and civilizations buried a long time ago under the thick sands of time.

Whether you raise them in or outside Egypt. The identity is there and it's up to you to feed it, and if that society has produced men like you and I and ladies like rose, lorna and Reena then maybe, just maybe it's still worth the fight.

Duke! El Blo2 nawwar:) .. If that's alright with the Darkness ;)

Believe me I am not apathetic towards my responsibility to this society. (And I haven't watched TV for months .. not to mention MelodyTV:) ) .. This identity and sense of belonging have always been too strong to renounce.

This post was just a cry of frustration from the pathetic state our society reached.

It's not about "we ana mali" .. It's just when every new day makes you realize that this kind of samples you have mentioned are becoming more and more scarce! .. Just have a quick look at the comments at the bottom of the Al-Arabiya news page that I've linked in the post.. walla a2ollak .. you better not!

When you realize that the mission of "ma7w ommeyya" that this society needs is becoming more and more difficult every day. Read this blog for some deep thoughts about the face of our society today starting from the ugly scars that came to the surface the last couple of weeks.

Rami,
Excuse me. I didn't notice the link in your post:))

When Karl Marx said that Religion is the opium of the massess, I guess he wasn't entirely wrong, if wrong at all.

Over our long bloody existence on this planet more people have died and killed in the name of God in comparison to any other cause.
From the crusades to 9/11 religion has been used to manipulate the massess into beliving that their stairway to heaven is paved with the blood of the infedels.

Add this to ignorance and you get a lethal weapon of mass destruction. We all need a soma to dull our brains. for some it's work, for others its drugs and alchol, for some is TV and for many it's religion. An external entity on which you attribute and justify your deeds and still sleep guilt free at night.

It's definetly sad and pathetic what happened in Alexandria and it would continue to happen if we yield to violence and ignorance and those who use the very things that were meant to bring peace, order and compassion to the planet to oil the machines of violence for their personal gains

My two cents or pounds for it's a slightly long post:)
